a·bout, n.: what this site is and who runs it.
Major Dictionary is a dictionary of mnemonics. Look up a number from 00 to 999, a playing card, a US president or a vocabulary word, and it gives you a picture that is easy to remember, with a short story to fix it in place. The technique guides explain the methods behind it, and the drills let you practise them.
Where the entries come from
Every entry has an editor's pick, marked with a crown. Signed-in readers can suggest their own pictures and vote; the laurel marks the one with the most votes. The vote counts you see are real votes.
Photos come from Wikimedia Commons. Each one is credited under the photo, with its author and licence.
What is free
Looking things up, the guides, the drills and Daily Digits are free and need no account. Without an account, your dictionary and drill history stay in this browser. Signing in with your email keeps them in sync across devices and lets you suggest and vote. A few journeys are paid; the price is shown before you pay.
